REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team (3-0) picked up their third straight win Wednesday night against Bates College 7-0 inside the Verdieck Tennis Center. The match, originally scheduled for Monday evening, had been postponed due to rain but that did not deter the Bulldogs as they shutout their second opponent on the season.
The Bulldogs started off strong with all three doubles spots picking up wins, securing the early doubles point. At No. 2
Hadley Allaria (Kirkwood, MO) and
Maisy Reynoso (El Paso, TX) had the first win 6-2. Then at the top spot
Maegan Deng (Torrance, CA) and
Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) would follow with a 6-3 victory. A minute later the No. 3 team of
Jasmine Sheets (Hesperia, CA) and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) would come away with the 6-2 win.
In singles the Bulldogs swept all six match points. Whelan rolled at No. 2 winning 6-2, 6-0, followed quickly by Deng at No.1 6-2,6-2. Reynoso got the third singles win at No.3 6-2, 6-1, which clinched the match for the Bulldogs. No. 6
Eve Laurent (Portland, OR) won her match 7-5,6-2. Allaria at No. 5 put together a tough fight pulling out a 7-6,7-5 victory and Kumar at No.4 grinded out the last point of the evening for the Bulldogs splitting sets 5-7, 6-1 before taking a back and forth third-set tiebreaker 13-11.
Redlands returns to the court Thursday, February 19 weather permitting when they host No. 23 Brandeis University beginning at 4:00pm.
