REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (18-6, 11-5) outscored Whittier College by 13 over the final three quarters as they won 78-67.
Carly Hicks made a three off an AJ Wick assist and Colbi Zorich and Aliyah Anderson tallied early points to helped the Bulldogs to an early 10-6 lead.
They held multiple four-point leads but the Poets scored 11 of the final 16 points of the first quarter as they took a 22-20 advantage into the second.
Teagan McIlroy broke the early dry spell offensively in the second with a three off an Avery Shiring assist which gave Redlands the lead.
Trailing by five, 33-28, with 2:27 to play in the opening half, the Bulldogs scored six unanswered points to take a 34-33 lead into half.
A 6-2 Whittier run to begin the third put the Bulldogs down three. Zorich and Anderson, however, came back for a quick three points to tie the game at 39.
There would be three more ties the rest of the third before a Hosn layup and free throw with 3:03 to play sparked a 14-9 run to end the quarter with the Bulldogs holding a five-point lead, 59-54. During the stretch Hosn and Anderson each had five points.
With 5:27 to go in the final quarter McIlroy got into the paint and gave Redlands their first double figure lead as part of an 11-0 run that carried them to victory Saturday night.
Anderson had a season-high 19 points along with six rebounds and four assists. Zorich had 14 points and five rebounds. The other three double figure scorers were Hosn and McIlroy with 11 each and Wick with 10.
Redlands now prepares to host the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament First Round game against Chapman University on Tuesday inside Currier Gym.
