U of R Women's Water Polo falls to Cal Lutheran in home SCIAC opener

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's water polo team (1-8, 0-2) lost their home Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener against No. 3 California Lutheran University (CLU) 20-5 Wednesday afternoon.

After following into a 5-0 hole in the first six minutes, Alyssa Sorrell scored on a powerplay before Aubree Nabors scored on a penalty to cut the deficit to three, 5-2.

The Bulldogs had a scoreless second quarter and found themselves down 13-2 with less than three minutes to play in the third. Nabors then got a second penalty opportunity with 2:43 on the clock which she converted.

Redlands' final two goals came from Kiera Federline who beat the Regal keeper under her arm to the near post. Federline then picked up an assist a couple of minutes later as she found Sorrell who had a crazy spinning back hand that netted the Bulldogs their fifth goal.

Sorrell had a great afternoon, scoring twice with five drawn exclusions. Nabors had two goals, an assist, and three steals. In goal Natalie Abril made three saves in the first half before Sofia Mather finished off the second half with another three saves and a steal.

Redlands hosts the California Institute of Technology on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC).
