NEWBERG, Ore. – The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team (5-1) never trailed in their 13-7 road win over George Fox University (GFU) Saturday as they finished their Oregon trip undefeated.
Emily Webster extended her goal scoring streak to 24 games, third longest streak in program history, in the first 70 seconds. In what was a low-scoring first quarter, Gwenyth Guico's goal with 1:36 remaining was only the second score as the two sides ended the first 15 minutes with the Bulldogs in front 2-0.
At the 11:33 mark of the second April Bryant made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal. That was then followed by the first two Bruin goals to cut the lead to one, 3-2, with 8:45 left in the half.
Webster, though, went on a personal 2-0 run to give Redlands a 5-2 lead after 30 minutes of action.
The lead remained was four, 7-3, after Bryant set up Sophia Rangel on a player up goal and Maya Weaver found Jacqueline Landucci for another player advantage goal with 12:41 on the clock in the third.
Catie Ramicone reestablished the four-goal advantage in the fourth, but the next two goals went to GFU as the lead was only two, 9-7, with 6:56 to play.
The Bulldogs, however, did not concede again and their offense woke up, scoring four times in the final 5:43 after only scoring four goals over the previous 22 minutes.
The four goals came from Webster, Rangel, Cailin Walker, and Bryant.
Courtney Myers had a big game in goal with 10 saves and five ground balls. Sophia Simonds had three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Ella Batarse led the team with three draw controls and added a caused turnover.
Scoring wise Webster had five goals, Bryant two with one assist, Rangel had a pair, and each of Landucci, Ramicone, Guico, and Walker added one.
The Bulldogs return to California to play No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in Claremont.
