Redlands Women's Water Polo wraps up Och Tamale Invitational

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's water polo team (0-5) dropped a pair of games to higher division opponents on the second and final day of the Och Tamale Invitational as they fell to Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) 24-4 and Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) 13-4.

Game 1 (Cal State Monterey Bay; L, 24-4)

Katie Raber (Portland, OR) found Aubree Nabors (Conroe, TX) for the Bulldogs' first and only goal in the opening half with 6:57 on the clock in the second period.

Between the 3:32 mark of the third and the 2:40 mark of the fourth, Redlands scored three times with Ainsley Killian (Beaverton, OR) connecting twice and goalkeeper Natalie Abril (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) finishing on a 7-on-6 with nine seconds remaining in the third. Teagan May (Carlsbad, CA) assisted Killian's second goal on a powerplay.

Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) drew four exclusions and Kiera Federline (Ashland, OR) added two. Sofia Mather (Riverside, CA) started and made three saves in the first half before Abril finished with four in the second half.

Game 2 (Cal State Fullerton; L, 13-4)

After conceding the first nine goals of the game, May found Nabors on the right post for U of R's first goal with 2:12 left in the first half.

The Bulldogs' defense had a very strong second half, conceding only three times after allowing 10 in the first 16 minutes.

From the 4:36 mark of the third quarter to the end of the game Redlands outscored the Titans 3-2 with Raber, Killian, and Sorrell all finding the back of the net.

Nabors and May each had two points. They also added a steal with Nabors posting a drawn exclusion. Abril played the full 32 minutes, making 13 saves.

Sorrell finished tied for fourth in the invitational with two field blocks. Mather made 16 saves, the sixth-most, and Abril was tied for third with 22.

Redlands travels to Thousand Oaks for the Tina Finali Invitational on February 14 with games against Wheaton College (Mass.) (10:00am) and Concordia University Irvine (1:15pm).
