REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team made quick work of both Ottawa University, AZ (6-1) and Stanton University (7-0) Saturday inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs dominated from start to finish taking both doubles points before grabbing a combined 11 points in singles collecting their first two overall wins of the season.
Match 1 (Ottawa University; W, 6-1
The Bulldogs got off to a strong start in doubles with the No. 3 team of
Alexander Losani (Ontario, Canada) and
Evan Lambert (Sarasota, FL) cruising 6-0.
William Pullin (Peachtree City, GA) and
Riley King (Fresno, CA) at No. 2 clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory. The last match on, which was unfinished was from the top team of
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Luke Bishop (Edmond, OK) who were down 5-4.
In singles, the Bulldogs won five more points with No. 3
Cooper Whittington grabbing
the first point 6-3, 6-1. King was put in at No. 6 and finished soon after 6-1,6-4 and Losani clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-3,6-3 victory. Both
MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA), who was playing No. 1 won 6-4,6-2 and No. 2
Sam Parsons (Leamington Spa, England) 6-3, 7-6 added another two points. The lone point to go to Ottawa came at No.5 where Lambert fell 6-4, 6-1.
Match 2 (Stanton University; W, 7-0)
Against Stanton, Head Coach
Mike Longanecker put in his starting lineup and they cruised to the lopsided victory.
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and Abarca rolled 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and were immediately followed by Parsons and Whittington
taking their match at No. 2 6-1. The last match on, was a close 6-4 loss from the No. 3 team of
Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) and
Mateen Ghafarshad (Claremont, CA).
In singles the U of R carried that early point and used the momentum with two wins rolling in at the same time— No. 4 and No.3 Hinkle 6-1, 6-2. Petcov at No. 1 would then clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-0 sttraight sets win for the Bulldogs. After that three more points came in from No.5 Ghafarshad 6-1, 6-4, No.2 Marcanth 6-2, 6-3, and No.6 Bishop 6-4,6-2.
Redlands returns to the court Thursday, February 19 when they host No. 32 Brandeis University beginning at 5:00pm.
