REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team (3-1, 3-0 SCIAC) completed their opening weekend going 3-1 after a 14-8 loss to No. 22 McMurry University at The Yard.
The Bulldogs fell behind 4-0 after two and half but then got the bats going in the bottom of the third when they quickly took the lead, 5-4.
The inning began with a ground out followed by Nevan Namgoong (Irvine, CA) singling to right and then advancing to second on a wild pitch. Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA), Tyler Barsness (Palm Desert, CA), Tanner Gerosa (Huntington Beach, CA), and Nate Miller (San Jose, CA) all followed with walks which brought home two runs.
Following a foul out, Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) found open grass in left field with two outs, and because the War Hawk outfielder had to make a long run, all three runners of Barsness, Gerosa, and Miller were able to score for a rare three-run single.
Redlands then tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Namgoong reached base once again after being hit by a pitch. He made it all the way to third during Hanson's at bat stealing second and going to third on a wild pitch. He would then take the final 90 feet on an RBI ground out by Hanson.
The final two runs of the inning came off the bat of Miller who crushed a two-run home run over the wall in left center.
In the fourth game in less than 48 hours, the Bulldogs' pitching started to falter in the fifth as the War Hawks scored three runs to pull within one despite only posting one hit.
McMurry then put the game away with a six-run sixth inning.
Gerosa had two walks and two runs scored. Miller and Bullard each had three RBI's and Namgoong reached three times and stole a base.
On the mound Tate Keddington (Boise, ID) and Nolan Espinosa (San Diego, CA) threw 2.1 scoreless innings after 13 runs had scored after 5.2.
Redlands makes the trip north to Tacoma, Washington for a four-game series with the University of Puget Sound next weekend February 13-15.
