SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The University of Redlands baseball team (8-11) went out of division and played at NCAA Division II California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) Tuesday evening where they lost, 10-1.
The Bulldogs played 24 different players, nine of which were pitchers. It was an opportunity for Head Coach Aaron Holley to see everyone since the game did not affect their NCAA Power Index (NPI), which determines who makes the NCAA Tournament as only Division III games count towards it.
Redlands managed only five hits all evening with two of them coming in the sixth when they scored their lone run. The first of those hits came from Karlsen Drake (San Diego, CA) who homered on a 3-1 pitch to left field to make it 7-1 Yotes.
Later in that same inning Dylan Andrews (Moreno Valley, CA) drew a walk, as did Nathan Moreno (Eastvale, CA). Then with two on and two outs, Tanner Gerosa (Huntington Beach, CA) singled to right field, but Moreno was unable to score after getting thrown out to end the inning.
Drake finished 2-for-2 with a walk and Moreno walked twice. On the mound all but one pitcher threw one or fewer innings with Kethan Efron (Las Vegas, NV) throwing 1.1. Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) had a strikeout in the first, Chad Kober (Castaic, CA) struck out two in the second, and Nolan Espinosa (San Diego, CA) threw a scoreless sixth.
Redlands remains in non-conference action as they host Westcliff University this Saturday, March 14 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
