Redlands Baseball drops series opener to No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

AZUSA, Calif. – The University of Redlands baseball team (10-12, 4-3) lost game one, 12-4, against No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS), at Azusa Pacific University (APU), Friday afternoon as their lone runs came on a grand slam in the fourth off the bat of Sean McCance.

The Stags took a 5-0 lead after three innings thanks to a pair of home runs in the third.

In the top of the fourth, though, Tanner Gerosa, Nate Miller, and Anthony Thomas all singled to start the inning. CMS, however, got the next batter on a fielder's choice with the out being recorded at home to keep the Bulldogs scoreless.

Then in a 0-2 hole, McCance took two balls before lifting a ball over the fence to bring Redlands to within one, 5-4.

CMS, however, came back with one in the bottom of the fourth, three in the fifth, and three in the eighth.

Gerosa and Thomas had two hits each with Luke Hanson drawing two walks at the top of the lineup. Ian Umscheid had a hit and a walk.

Redlands hosts CMS tomorrow for a doubleheader at The Yard with first pitch of game one at 11 a.m.
