REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's water polo team (4-16) drop a sudden death game, 7-6, to Macalester College Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second quarter thanks to goals from Aubrey Stevenson and Lucia Notaro while their defense did not allow any goals until the 4:34 mark of second.
After the Scots tied the game at two, Kiera Federline scored as time expired in the first half, giving them a 3-2 lead after 16 minutes.
Following a second tie at three all, Brooklyn Green and Marlie Potocki scored back-to-back goals to give Redlands a 5-3 lead with 7:09 to play in the fourth quarter.
Macalester, though, responded with the final two goals, including one with 13 seconds on the clock, to tie the game at five, which sent the two sides into overtime.
In the first three-minute overtime period the Scots scored as time expired. The Bulldogs responded with only one second to play in the second overtime as goalkeeper Sofia Mather found the back of the net with one second between them and a narrow loss.
In the sudden death period, Macalester won it with only two seconds to play in the first period as the Bulldogs just missed their second sudden death win in a week.
Redlands had six different goal scorers while Notaro led the way with two points and six drawn exclusions. Natalie Abril made a save in the first half with Mather making five in the final 25 minutes.
