REDLANDS, Calif. — The University of Redlands football program announced today the addition of Colin Fry as Defensive Backs Coach, bringing more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience and a proven track record of developing NFL-caliber talent to the Bulldogs' defensive staff.

Fry arrives in Redlands after spending the better part of the last eight years at Portland State University, where he served in multiple capacities including Defensive Backs Coach, Co-Defensive Coordinator, and most recently Wide Receivers Coach. His tenure with the Vikings was defined by consistent player development and an unwavering commitment to both on-field performance and academic success — roles that align directly with the Bulldogs' mission.

"We are excited to have Coach Fry on staff," explained Head Coach Jim Good. "His recruiting connections on the West Coast will be a valuable asset to our program. Coach Fry takes great pride in developing players to reach their full potential, which is reflected in the many accolades his players have earned over the years."

Prior to Portland State, Fry built his coaching foundation at his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley, where he served as a Graduate Assistant and later Quality Control coach working with SAMs, Nickels, and Dimes from 2013 to 2017 under the Cal Bears' staff. He also spent time at the University of Nevada, Reno — where he earned his Bachelor of General Studies — beginning his career as a student assistant with the secondary in 2010.

A trained academician as well as a coach, Fry holds a Master of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, reflecting a holistic approach to athlete development that extends well beyond the football field. During his time at Portland State he served as Recruiting Coordinator and Academic & Compliance Liaison, roles that underscore his investment in the total student-athlete experience.

Fry's recruiting footprint spans some of the nation's most talent-rich regions, including the Inland Empire, Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, Orange County, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Houston, and Atlanta — giving the Bulldogs' staff a broad network as they continue to build the program's depth of talent.

Fry's coaching philosophy centers on developing confident, disciplined, and resilient players within an atmosphere of high motivation and commitment to competitive excellence. That philosophy produced results: under his guidance, Anthony Adams earned All-American honors three times and All-Conference recognition; Cru Newman was a two-time All-American; and Michael Montgomery earned All-American honors as well. Additional All-Conference honorees include Xavier Bell, Parker McKenna, and Cru Newman.

"My goal has always been to build confident, disciplined, and resilient players," Fry explained.  "I believe in creating environments where athletes are pushed to compete at the highest level every day. I'm excited to bring that energy to Redlands."
