SCIAC Softball Weekly Release (Week 6)

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) selections were made for Softball Athletes of the Week Monday with senior utility player Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA) receiving recognition as the Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season.

The University of Redlands Softball team had a perfect week going 7-0, 3-0 SCIAC, which included a pair of Top-25 wins over No. 18 Chapman University and No. 22 Williams College.  

On the week they beat No. 18 Chapman (3-1), Pomona-Pitzer (3-2), Occidental (7-2, 11-4, 6-0) and No. 22 Williams (6-0, 11-1), improving their overall record to 18-4, 5-1 SCIAC.  They also beat two All-American pitchers on the week in Rose Malen (Chapman) and Sadie Leonard (Williams).   

Gandara literally put the Maroon and Grey on her shoulders both at the plate and in the circle.  She batted .500 (9-for-18) with three Doubles, a homerun, 11 RBI's, two walks, three runs scored, and slugged .833. 

Then in the circle she had a 3-0 record, a 0.66 ERA, with four starts, a complete game, one shutout, a save, 21.1 innings thrown, 12 strikeouts, and only two runs Given Up

Redlands returns to the diamond this weekend, March 27-28 for a three-game set with Whittier College.  The Bulldogs travel to Whittier on Friday for a 3:00pm start before hosting the Poets on Saturday for two games at the Field of Dreams (12pm & 2pm).
