Redlands Men’s Tennis shuts out Linfield 7-0

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team championed another big win to their season 7-0 over Linfield University Wednesday evening inside the Verdieck Tennis Center improving to 5-7 on the season.

The Bulldogs sped through doubles, sweeping all three spots to take an early lead.  In under twenty minutes, the No. 3 pairing of Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) and Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) walked off the court with a 6-0 bagel.  On the top court, Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and Marlon Abarca (San Diego, CA) cruised through a 6-3 set. Then to wrap things up the No. 2 team of Samuel Parsons (Leamington Spa, England) and Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) fought their way through a 6-4 win.

Singles looked no different for Redlands, as the team would pick up all six singles points. Whittington at number four, brought in the second point just under an hour with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win. On the last court Evan Lambert (Sarasota, FL) cruised 6-2, 6-1.  Abarca at the second spot, brought in the clinching point after a very strong 6-3, 6-1 victory.

The next two Bulldogs to finish were split set matches. William Pullin at number three had a tough loss in the first set 7-6, but turned it on in the second set to take it 6-1, before decisively winning the third set tiebreak 10-6. On the fifth court, Luke Bishop (Edmond, OK) played out a full third taking his first set 6-3 before falling in the second set 6-2.  He did however come back strong in the third with a 6-2 win.

Petcov was the last player on at the top spot taking on former Bulldog Zac Nakajima. The two went head-to-head through both sets, neither giving the other an inch.  Petcov came out victorious in straight sets 7-5, 7-5 to complete the clean sweep.

Redlands returns to the court on Thursday, March 26 as they host No. 15 Middlebury College beginning at 4:00pm inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
