REDLANDS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Athletes of the Week Monday with the University of Redlands having four selections including
Katlyn Gandara (Softball), Savanah Christenson (Women's Golf), Maegan Deng (Women's Tennis) and
William Pullin (Men's Tennis).
Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA)
The University of Redlands Softball team had another perfect week going 5-0 with clean sweeps over Elmhurst (11-0 & 11-3) and Whittier College (10-1, 11-3, 9-0) giving up just seven runs over that five-game stretch.
Redlands improves to 23-4, 8-1 SCIAC, have won 13 in a row and have run-ruled six straight opponents.
Offensively, Gandara was outstanding going 7-for-10 (.700), slugging 1.200 and an OBP of .667. She added five runs scored, nine RBI's, a pair of doubles, a homerun, and two walks. Against Elmhurst she was 4-for-4 with 5 RBI's, 4 Runs Scored, a double and a homerun. Then against Whittier was 3-for-6 with a run scored, 4 RBI's and another double.
Then in the circle she was again tough to beat going 3-0 on the week with a perfect 0.00 ERA. She threw 13.0 Innings with three appearances, three starts, and a complete game, giving up just one unearned run and scattered 10 hits, while striking out four. Against Elmhurst she threw Game 1 and went 4.0 Innings, giving up just one hit and struck out two. She then threw Game 1 against Whittier and went 5.0 Innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits and then returned in Game 2 of the doubleheader to throw 4.0 scoreless innings, while scattering five hits.
Savanah Christenson (Upland, CA)
The University of Redlands Women's Golf team competed in the UC Santa Cruz Invitational over the weekend finishing in 3rd Place with a two-round total of 616 (314-302), upsetting No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer (+47).
Christenson led the field individually winning the two-day event shooting +2 (146) going 72-74 to edge out the second-place finisher by a stroke. She totaled eight birdies over the two rounds, which included five coming across her final 18 holes.
Maegan Deng (Torrance, CA)
The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team had a three-match week going 2-1 with wins over Whitworth University (7-0) and Whittier College (6-0). Their lone loss coming against No. 8 MIT (5-2).
Deng was untouchable on the week at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles going 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles for a 5-0 week. Against Whitworth she and partner
Lindsey Whelan cruised to the 6-2 win at the top spot. She then returned to win in straight sets at No. 1 singles winning 6-0, 6-1. Against No. 8 MIT she had another sweep joining Whelan at No. 1 cruising to the 6-2 win, which helped lead the Bulldogs to the early doubles point. She then grinded out a 6-4, 7-6 win over the top player from the Engineers.
The last match came against Whittier where she only competed in doubles with Whelan at No. 1 winning 6-0 before being pulled in singles.
William Pullin (Peachtree City, GA)
The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team had a long week of matches going 4-1 on the week beating Whitworth (5-2), Linfield (7-0), Whittier (7-0), and upsetting No. 21 Williams (5-2).
Pullin was undefeated on the week in singles going 4-0 to lead the Maroon and Grey. He played No. 1 against Whitworth winning 6-2, 6-0, pulled out a third set breaker against Linfield at No. 3 6-7, 6-1, 10-6, picked up the only win against No. 15 Middlebury at No. 6 7-5, 6-3 and then grabbed a win at No. 5 against No. 21 Williams 6-2, 6-3.
