CLAREMONT, Calif. – On Thursday night, the University of Redlands Women's Tennis team traveled to Pomona Pitzer to take on the Sagehens in the SCIAC Tournament Semi-Final. On this side of the bracket, Pomona was seeded No. 2 and Redlands at No. 3. Despite a strong start in doubles for the U of R, it wouldn't be enough as the Bulldogs would get swept 4-0.

Playoff matches were played to clinch in both doubles and singles, with all unfinished matches requiring a stoppage. In doubles, the Sagehens won the early point when they got the clinch on courts two and three. On court three, Maisy Reynoso (El Paso, TX) and Jasmine Sheets (Hesperia, CA) had a chance to pick up a quick win after being up 4-1.  But they failed to close the set out falling seeing the Sagehens rally to win the next five games, 6-4.  On court two, Sophia Truong (Arleta, CA) and Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) put up a tough fight but would fall, 6-3.  Unfortunately, Maegan Deng (Torrance, CA) and Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) on court one were unable to finish, having their match stopped after being down 5-3.

The Bulldogs looked to re-group in singles, but Pomona-Pitzer would go on to grab the final three points giving them the overall clinch they needed for the win. The Sagehens earned the three points on courts four, five, and six. At No. 6 Sheets would fall in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.  Then at No. 4 Kumar would finish dropping 6-4, 6-0, and then at No. 5 Truong was unable to push through dropping in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

There were three singles matches halted due to the clinch. Deng at No.1 had fallen in her first set 6-3 and was making a steady comeback in the second set leading 4-2. Next to her, was Whelan at No. 2 who had a similar story falling in the first set 6-1, before bouncing back to take the second set 6-2.  Right as the third set was about to start her match would be halted. The third match on was at No. 3 with Reynoso who was battling with her opponent in the first set, ultimately falling 6-4 and then finding herself down 1-0 in the second set.

Redlands awaits the NCAA Division III National Championship Selection Show, which is next Monday to see if they earn an At-Large bid.
