Wartburg Softball Regional Preview

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands softball team earned a No. 1 seed in the Wartburg College Regional in Iowa where they play a four-team double elimination bracket beginning Thursday, May 14 at 9:00 a.m. pacific time (PT) against No. 4 seed Dominican University (Illinois).

Tournament Format

The Bulldogs play game one before No. 2 seed Wartburg plays No. 3 seed Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) who play later Thursday.

On Friday the two winners from Thursday will play at 9:00 a.m. PT followed by the two losing teams at 11:30 a.m. PT. Game five, and the third on Friday, will be at 2:00 p.m. PT between the loser of the first game of the day and the winner of the elimination game.

The winner of the fifth game will play the 2-0 team on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT. The 2-0 team will need one win out of two while the 2-1 team will need to win both. It is the same tournament format as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament last weekend.

No. 1 Redlands (38-4)

The Bulldogs earned an automatic qualifying (AQ) bid for winning the SCIAC Tournament. They finished No. 9 in the NCAA NPI rankings, which determined the seeding. The Top 16 teams in the country were given one seeds followed by each of the next 16 teams that qualified earning two, three, and four seeds.
