Teagan McIlroy selected to represent USA Division III on Brazil Tour

REDLANDS, Calif. – Upcoming sophomore Teagan McIlroy (Phoenix, AZ) from the University of Redlands women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the USA D-3 Basketball Brazil Tour slated to take place August 4-13.
 
The USA D-3 Basketball Teams (BLUE TEAM & RED TEAM) are invited, NCAA Division III women's players from across the country. These teams are comprised of players recognized nationally, regionally and by their conferences.
  • The Blue Team is made up of eight players representing seven different colleges and universities and coming from six different home states.
  • The Red Team is made up of eight players representing six different colleges and universities and coming from six different home states.

"Many of the players on this year's USA D-3 Basketball Team - Brazil Tour had outstanding individual seasons and led their teams into post season play." "This tour is designed to expose players to a great international Basketball experience while providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and social growth."
 
McIlroy put together an outstanding freshman campaign for the Maroon and Grey being named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year and the D3hoops.com Region 10 Rookie of the Year.  She is the second Rookie of the Year for the Bulldogs joining recent Bulldog Bench Hall of Famer Courtney Carroll who earned this recognition back in 2009.
 
D3hoops.com began selecting all-region teams in 2002 and rookies of the year in 2008. 
 
This past season McIlroy averaged 10.8 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. She added 97 assists, 50 steals, and 20 blocks.  Nationally she ranked fourth in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.62. She was also 107th in assists and assists per game (3.7).  At the free throw line she made 63-of-75 free throws for a made free throw percentage of 84%. That is the eighth-highest in single-season program history.
 
In Brazil the team will experience educational, cultural, and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.  In Sao Paulo the teams will be staying in the city of Sao Paulo, the second largest city in the Western Hemisphere.  In Rio de Janeiro the team will be staying on the world-famous Copacabana Beach (location for the 2016 Rio Olympic Beach Volleyball) and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.  The team will visit the popular international market in Ipanema and Ipanema Beach.
 
The USA D-3 Basketball Teams – Brazil Tour will run from August 4 through August 13.  The teams will begin with orientation in Orlando, Florida on August 4th before the teams depart for Sao Paulo, Brazil.  The teams will play (Doubleheaders) in the cities & clubs they play in.  On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the USA D-3 Basketball Teams will play in Sao Paulo.   On Saturday the teams will fly to Rio de Janeiro.  The USA D-3 teams will play one additional game each in Rio de Janeiro on either Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.
