REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's soccer team (3-0-1) returned to Farquhar Field Friday afternoon taking down their second top five team this week thanks to a game-winning goal by Thomas Lyden (Thornwood, NY) in the 88th minute as the Bulldogs beat No. 4 Emory University.
Landon Azavedo (Lake Oswego, OR) and Luke Wyatt (Pasadena, CA) each forced saves out of the Eagle keeper in the first 14 minutes.
The first attempt handled by Jaden Nisperos (San Diego, CA) came in the 26th minute in what was the final look for either team on target in the first half.
After six shots that were off the target, Nisperos denied an Eagle attempt in the 69th minute.
With no more looks on goal into the final three minutes, the game looked like it was headed for a 0-0 tie. But on a loose ball after a corner on top of the box, Bo Robertson (Portland, OR) got a touch to Azavedo, who then fed the ball to Lyden who then curled in a shot that hit off the inside of the far post putting UR on top 1-0.
The final two attempts came from Emory, but neither were on target as the Bulldogs closed out the shutout win.
Redlands gets just over 24 hours of rest before hosting Colorado College, Saturday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Farquhar Field.
