Senior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR) netted two goals,
leading the Bulldogs over Whittier College by a convincing 5-0
final on Oct. 22.
The win marked the 11th straight for the team and kept its unbeaten
streak alive in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC).
Schunk struck in the 10th minute of action, taking a pass from
senior forward Alex Parker (Chula Vista, CA) to the back of the
net.
Following a yellow card charged against the Whittier goalkeeper,
Mike Read, senior midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak Harbor, WA) powered
home a penalty kick to put the Bulldogs out in front 2-0.
With traffic in the box, freshman midfielder Cody Carlson (Burbank,
CA) slipped a ball past Read for a goal, and junior midfielder Will
Kelly (Seattle, WA) received credit for the assist.
In the final seconds of the first half, Schunk took a Kelly pass to
the back of the net as each recorded their second goal and assist,
respectively, on the evening.
Junior midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA) drove the nail in
the coffin in the 61st minute as he tapped in a goal off of a
Parker feed, which gave the Bulldogs the 5-0 advantage that would
hold until the final buzzer.
In goal, junior goalkeeper Evan Hobson (San Diego, CA) split time
with freshman goalkeeper Charles Pratt IV (Phoenix, AZ), and both
prevented the Poets from scoring. Hobson tallied four saves on the
evening while Pratt went untested.
Mike Read picked up the loss for Whittier, saving 11 shots and
surrendering five goals.
It was no contest in the shot column as Redlands outshot the
visitors by a 35-5 margin, and the corner kick opportunities
favored the Bulldogs as well as the maroon and gray took five to
Whittier's one.
Redlands (12-4-1, 10-0-1 SCIAC) travels to Eagle Rock on Saturday
to face a hungry Occidental College team that is fighting for a
spot among the four teams that will make the SCIAC Postseason
Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
