Redlands Women's Soccer Falls to No. 20 UC Santa Cruz 2-1

Despite striking first, the University of Redlands women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 20 UC Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz on Sept. 12.

Sophomore midfielder Jessi Hoyt (Boise, ID) headed in a ball off of a corner kick by sophomore defender Breann Puchalski (Redlands, CA) for the first goal of the game.

The Banana Slugs responded with just 19 seconds left in the first half with Annick Lamb scoring off of an Erica Wheeler-Durbin pass. Lamb knocked in the game-winning goal as well, scoring in the 79th minute to give UC Santa Cruz the 2-1 advantage.

Junior goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) allowed one goal and made two saves in 45 minutes of action.

Redlands held the edge in shots by an 8-7 margin and did so in corner kicks as well, taking five corner kicks to UC Santa Cruz's two.

On Sunday, Redlands plays a neutral-site match against Willamette University (OR) at 11 a.m. in Santa Cruz.
