Overtime Goal Lifts Redlands Women's Soccer Over Willamette University

Box Score

Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Kimmel (Clinton, WA) broke up a 0-0 tie in the first overtime period, lifting the 3-1-1 University of Redlands women's soccer team over Willamette University (OR) by a 1-0 final on Sept. 14 at UC Santa Cruz.

Kimmel's goal came in the 91st minute, marking her first collegiate goal. A transfer from Division II Rollins College (FL), she tallied one assist but did not score a goal in 11 games of action last season for the Tars.

Junior goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) shut out the Bearcats, tallying two saves. Willamette's Kelli Gano saved four shots and allowed Kimmel's overtime goal.

The Bulldogs held the shot advantage, outshooting the Bearcats 12-9. Willamette did, however, receive more corner kick opportunities than Redlands by a 5-3 margin.

After a 1-1 showing this weekend in Santa Cruz, the team starts Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play on Wednesday at home against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 7 p.m.
