Box Score Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Kimmel (Clinton, WA) broke up a 0-0
tie in the first overtime period, lifting the 3-1-1 University of
Redlands women's soccer team over Willamette University (OR)
by a 1-0 final on Sept. 14 at UC Santa Cruz.
Kimmel's goal came in the 91st minute, marking her first
collegiate goal. A transfer from Division II Rollins College (FL),
she tallied one assist but did not score a goal in 11 games of
action last season for the Tars.
Junior goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) shut out the
Bearcats, tallying two saves. Willamette's Kelli Gano saved
four shots and allowed Kimmel's overtime goal.
The Bulldogs held the shot advantage, outshooting the Bearcats
12-9. Willamette did, however, receive more corner kick
opportunities than Redlands by a 5-3 margin.
After a 1-1 showing this weekend in Santa Cruz, the team starts
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
play on Wednesday at home against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 7 p.m.
