Despite an eight-point halftime lead, the University of Redlands
men's basketball team came up on the losing end of
Saturday's game against the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens
by a score of 57-71.
After trailing by 10 points early in the first half, the Bulldogs
clawed their way back into the game, relying on their impressive
shooting at 66.7% They pulled within one with 6:44 to go and then
tied the game off of a three-pointer by sophomore guard Kent Ervin
(Bend, OR) at 4:31. Redlands then went on an 8-0 run to finish the
half up by a score of 38-30.
However, the Sagehens responded in the second half and took
advantage of two Bulldog cold streaks. Pomona-Pitzer put up a
shooting percentage of 47.8, compared to Redlands' 21.4%.
After trying the game at 45 apiece with 14:09 remaining in the
game, the Sagehens pulled away on a 7-0 run and never relinquished
the lead.
The Bulldogs relied on junior guard Patrick Coffey (San
Carlos, CA) to come in off the bench and provide a team-high 15
points. Sophomore forward Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) chipped in 12
points and six rebounds while freshman center Jordan Sanvictores
(Redwood City, CA) added 11 points and six boards.
Redlands (4-10, 0-3 SCIAC) looks to rebound on Wednesday when it
hosts the University of La Verne in a conference game at 7:30 p.m.
