Box Score Amidst a defensive battle between two once-beaten teams in
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
action, the University of Redlands women's basketball came up
on the losing end of a game plagued by fouls and turnovers. The
University of La Verne prevailed on Thursday night in Currier Gym,
bolstering an early lead en route to a 50-42 victory.
La Verne held a three-point advantage with 12:53 to play in the
first half but the Bulldogs tightened up their defense to slow down
their opponents. However, Redlands' offense failed to ignite,
shooting 29.1% for the game against a stingy Leopard squad.
With 33 turnovers between the teams, La Verne capitalized more
effectively, converting 12 points off of Redlands' 15
turnovers. In addition, the Leopards gained 18 of its 50 points
from the reserves while Redlands' bench produced only eight
points.
The low-scoring game saw only one player from each team in double
figures, with Leopard Corinne Watkins scoring 11 and Redlands
sophomore guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) capturing her
fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 16
rebounds.
The Bulldogs (10-5, 3-2 SCIAC) head to Cal Lutheran University on
Saturday night for a conference doubleheader with the Redlands
men's team. The women tip off at 5 p.m., with the men
following at 7:30 p.m.
