The University of Redlands men's basketball team traveled
to Caltech on Saturday night for the final Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) doubleheader of the
season. After the women dismantled the Beavers, the Bulldog
men's team followed suit with an 87-72 showing.
By shooting 52.6% from the field in the first half, the Bulldogs
held a 20-point advantage at the break. In addition, Redlands
utilized 12 players on the floor with seven of them scoring at
least one point.
The Bulldogs looked to the impressive shooting of junior guard
Andrew Maertens (Salt Lake City, UT) to lead the way. He went
8-for-11 and made all four of his three-pointers for a game-high 20
points.
In addition, four other players provided double-digit scoring.
Sophomore forward Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) supplied 19 points on
7-for-11 shooting to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
Junior guard Patrick Coffey (San Carlos, CA) came up with 18
points, going 9-for-12 from the charity stripe. He also distributed
four assists and made three steals in the victory. Senior forward
Travis Miller (Coto de Caza, CA) and sophomore center Andrew Mills
(Newcastle, WA) each chipped in 10 points.
The Bulldogs (9-15, 5-8 SCIAC) host Occidental College on Tuesday
at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Night as they celebrate Miller in his final
home, regular season game.
