The University of Redlands women's basketball team wrapped
up the regular season on Saturday with a 63-29 trouncing of
Caltech. After a slow start early in the first half, the Bulldogs
cruised to a 19-point advantage at the break and then stretched
that lead to 34 points by the end of the game.
Junior forward Meghan Yetman (Danville, CA) led all scorers with
16 points, going 8-for-13 from the field. She also tallied seven
rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Freshman forward Courtney
Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) and freshman forward Shada
Sadeghi (Walnut Creek, CA) each chipped in 10 points to round out
the Bulldogs' double-digit scorers. Seven other players
contributed points, while every member of the team earned time on
the floor. With the bench supplying 30 points, Redlands
relied on a total team effort in the victory.
The Bulldogs shot only 39.1% from the field but went 8-for-10
from the charity stripe. Redlands dominated the boards with 49
rebounds, compared to Caltech's 36.
With the victory, the women's basketball team has
surpassed the program's best finish by two wins.
The Bulldogs (19-6, 11-3) finished out the conference season in
second place, just one game behind defending Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Champion Occidental
College. As the No. 2 seed, Redlands looks forward to hosting No.
3-seeded University of La Verne in a semifinal game of the 2009
SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Occidental
welcomes Whittier College for a match-up between the No. 1 and No.
4 teams. The winners of these games face off on Saturday at 5 p.m.
at the site of the highest remaining seed to determine the
conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships.
