The University of Redlands women's basketball team took to the
road on Thursday night and returned home with an impressive 63-37
victory over the Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
With 13:49 to go in the game, CMS held a one-point advantage at
10-9, but the Bulldogs unleashed their offense to build a 14-point
lead at the half. Redlands took advantage of costly Athena
turnovers, converting them to 15 points in the first period alone.
During the second half, the Bulldogs continued to outscore their
opponents with 11 different players contributing at least one
point. Redlands also converted 16 of its 22
opportunities at the charity stripe while knocking down
47.7% of total shots.
Leading the solid performance by the Bulldogs, junior forward
Meghan Yetman (Danville, CA) tallied 14 points off of 5-for-7
shooting and pulled down six rebounds. Junior guard Ali Bueno
(San Jose, CA) came up with nine points, connecting on three
baskets from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Katy Coyne
(Scottsdale, AZ) also chipped in nine points, going 5-for-6 from
the line.
The Bulldogs (14-6, 6-3 SCIAC) return home on Saturday night for
a conference doubleheader with the men's team against Whittier
College. The women tip off at 5 p.m, followed by the men at
7:30 p.m. Saturday also marks Take a Kid to the Game Night,
where all adults accompanied by a child receive free
admission. In addition, the kids are invited down to Gary
Smith Court for a halftime shootaround.
