Redlands Men's Soccer Ties with Tigers 1-1

Box Score

The University of Redland men's soccer team battled it out with the Tigers of Occidental College on Saturday at Lower Soccer Field but settled for a 1-1 tie after two overtimes. The Bulldogs recorded their second tie within the week but remain unbeaten at the top of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

Occidental struck first as sophomore midfielder Ben Grimes (Batesburg, SC) scored his first goal of the season, connecting with sophomore forward Ben Murray (Sagle, ID) at the 31st minute.

In the second half, the Bulldogs turned up their offense, out-shooting the Tigers, 10 to 3. This barrage of shots eventually resulted in sophomore forward Alex Laughton's (Pleasanton, CA) second netter of the season when he put one past the Tiger goalkeeper at 60:54.

Both teams fought to break the tie through two overtime periods but the score remained knotted at one apiece.

Freshman goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) picked up seven saves in 110 minutes of work for the Bulldogs.

Redlands (5-0-2, 4-0-2 SCIAC) takes to the road to face the Panthers of Chapman University in a non-conference match-up at 7 p.m. tonight.
