Box Score The University of Redland men's soccer team battled it out with
the Tigers of Occidental College on Saturday at Lower Soccer Field
but settled for a 1-1 tie after two overtimes. The Bulldogs
recorded their second tie within the week but remain unbeaten at
the top of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) standings.
Occidental struck first as sophomore midfielder Ben Grimes
(Batesburg, SC) scored his first goal of the season, connecting
with sophomore forward Ben Murray (Sagle, ID) at the 31st
minute.
In the second half, the Bulldogs turned up their offense,
out-shooting the Tigers, 10 to 3. This barrage of shots eventually
resulted in sophomore forward Alex Laughton's
(Pleasanton, CA) second netter of the season when he put one
past the Tiger goalkeeper at 60:54.
Both teams fought to break the tie through two overtime periods
but the score remained knotted at one apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Andreas
Silva (San Jose, CA) picked up seven saves in 110 minutes of
work for the Bulldogs.
Redlands (5-0-2, 4-0-2 SCIAC) takes to the road to face the
Panthers of Chapman University in a non-conference match-up at 7
p.m. tonight.
