Redlands Men's Soccer Falls to Chapman in First Loss of Season

Box Score

The University of Redlands men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2010 season in a 0-1 decision against the Panthers of Chapman University at a chilly and damp Wilson Field in Orange.

Chapman's freshman midfielder Chris Darling (Westlake Village, CA) took advantage of opportunity and notched his first career goal as he collected a rebounded shot and struck the eventual game-winner with 57 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Panthers clamped down on Redlands to preserve the victory, not allowing a single shot from the Bulldogs in the second frame.

Junior forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) and senior midfielder Gilbert Flores (Woodlake, CA) combined for four shots, all of which were on goal in the first period. Unfortunately, neither could find the back of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) recorded his first career loss in his fifth match for the Bulldogs. He earned three saves in 90 minutes of action.

Redlands (5-1-2, 4-0-2 SCIAC) returns to conference competition on Wednesday when it hosts the Poets of Whittier College at 7 p.m.
