Box Score The University of Redlands women's basketball team continued its recent struggles, recording its third straight defeat with a 55-63 showing at Chapman University on Saturday.
Redlands faced an early nine-point deficit and never recovered as the Panthers shot 44.8% with four three-pointers in the opening period.
The Bulldogs cut Chapman's lead to four at 21-17 with nearly eight minutes remaining in the first half when junior forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) sank both of her free throws.
But the Panthers quickly made it 31-20 just two minutes later by hitting back-to-back shots from long range.
Redlands finished out the game by shooting 31.4% from the field, while Chapman slightly edged its opponents at 38.8%. However, the Bulldogs went an abysmal 1-for-16 from beyond the arc as the Panthers knocked down six of their 14 attempts.
Chapman converted 14 points off of Redlands' 18 turnovers as the Bulldogs turned the Panthers' 14 miscues into 10 points.
Carroll provided 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Maroon and Gray. Freshman guard Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) chipped in 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Junior guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) and senior forward Allison Clark (Altadena, CA) rounded out the top scorers with 10 and 11, respectively.
Chapman's (3-3) Simone Ibbotson led the game with 16 points, while Stephanie Servin and Mary Petrie bolstered the Panther offense with 13 and 12, respectively.
Redlands (2-4) strives to stop its skid when it hosts North Central College (IL) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Currier Gym.
