The University of Redlands women's basketball team
continued its dominating style of play on Thursday night with an
80-34 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC) victory over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont. The
Bulldogs gained an early 10-point lead and never relinquished
control of the game, as three players put up double figures and
seven others contributed at least two points in the win.
In addition, sophomore forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos
Verdes, CA) broke the single-season block record at Redlands with
three against the Sagehens for a total of 39. She surpassed
Amber Woods' previous mark of 37 from the 2003 season.
Against the Sagehens, Redlands took an early 4-3 lead and then
quickly blew it open with a 14-0 run.
The Bulldogs made it a 20-point game at 34-14 with 4:47 remaining
in the half and stayed in control through the final whistle.
Beyond breaking the single-season block record, Carroll registered
her 12th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10
rebounds. She also tallied four assists and two steals.
Senior guard Ali Bueno (San Jose, CA) sank four three-pointers
to contribute to her 16-point showing, while junior guard Mariah
Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) chipped in 10 points, four assists, and
two blocks.
Pomona-Pitzer gained 15 points from senior guard Deirdre Chew
(Pacifica, CA).
With Occidental College's 60-55 victory over Cal Lutheran
University, the Bulldogs now sit in a two-way tie for second place
in the conference standings.
Redlands (17-5, 9-2 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting Whittier
College for Senior Night on Sat., Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.
