The No. 11 University of Redlands men's tennis suffered a
3-6 loss to No. 28 Cal Lutheran University in today's
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
make-up match from Saturday in Thousand Oaks. After going down 1-2
in doubles, the Bulldogs never recovered en route to their first
loss to the Kinsgmen since the 2003 season.
Freshman Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) and junior Keven Wong (Kaneohe,
HI) earned the team's only bright spot in doubles with a 9-7
come-from-behind win at No. 2.
Redlands faced a 1-4 deficit before rallying for two victories in
singles. Freshman Taylor Chaparro (Burlingame, CA) stepped up with
a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 6 slot before junior Matt Liebman
(Westport, CT) took down his No. 5 opponent by scores of 7-5,
7-5.
The Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1 SCIAC) look to rebound on Wed. with a 10
a.m. match against Concordia University – Irvine. Originally
scheduled for Feb. 6, this non-conference showdown takes place at
the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
