The No. 18 University of Redlands men's tennis faced off against
No. 1 UC Santa Cruz on Verdieck Courts earlier today but fell short
to the visiting Banana Slugs by a count of 2-7.
The Bulldogs struck first with the No. 2 tandem of senior Jeff
Hammond (Mercer Island, WA) and junior Keven Wong (Kaneohe, HI)
routing their counterparts, 8-3.
Santa Cruz responded with its 8-5 performance at the No. 1 slot
before edging out the Maroon and Gray at No. 3 by a score of 9-7.
Redlands needed four of the six singles matches to mount a
comeback but struggled to create any momentum.
After the match was already decided, freshman Taylor Chaparro
(Burlingame, CA) secured the Bulldogs' second point with his 7-5,
6-2 showing at No. 5.
Redlands (10-8) continues its challenging run of matches on
Wednesday with a 2 p.m. showdown against No. 25 Gustavus Adolphus
