On Saturday afternoon, the University of Redlands men's soccer
team won its third consecutive contest and second conference game
of the season, defeating the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by
a score of 3-1 in Claremont.
Currently, the Bulldogs sit atop the Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings in the early
part of the season with a 2-0 record.
In Saturday's game, Redlands got off to a hot start as senior
midfielder Gilbert Flores
(Woodlake, CA) dished out an assist to junior forward Cody Carlson
(Burbank, CA) as he registered his team-leading third goal of the
year at the 11-minute mark.
Carlson kept the Bulldogs' momentum rolling at the end of the
first half by tossing in his first assist of the season to senior
midfielder Ethan
Low (Langley, WA), who struck a low corner shot to put Redlands
up by two at the break.
The Sagehens made an offensive charge just fifteen minutes into
the second frame when sophomore midfielder Erick Munzer took
advantage of a one-on-one opportunity and found the back of the
net.
At the 88th minute, Flores struck his second netter of the
season to provide an insurance goal for the Bulldogs, and
additionally dash away any comeback chances by the Sagehens. Junior
forward Jamie
Griffin (Seattle, WA) garnered his first point of the year with
the assist.
For the Maroon and Gray, freshman goalkeeper Andreas
Silva (San Jose, CA) picked up his first collegiate win in his
SCIAC debut, making one save in the process.
The Bulldogs face off against Caltech in a SCIAC match on
Wednesday with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Farquhar Field.
