Bulldog Women's Basketball Pounds the Poets of Whittier College, 75-43

Box Score

The University of Redlands women's basketball team held Whittier College to just 22.7% while putting on a shooting show at 52.7% overall, which included a 63.6% performance from long range, during tonight's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up in Currier Gym. While junior guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) erupted for a career-high 25 points, the Bulldogs relied on an otherwise well-rounded effort that included 10 players contributing at least one point.

Redlands led from the opening basket and never relinquished control as Whittier missed its first 15 shots until sophomore forward Alex Coon (Wasilla, AK) finally put the Poets on the board.

Bulldog freshman forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) drove the basket on the ensuing possession, giving Redlands a double-digit lead at 12-2 with 10:41 remaining in the opening frame.

At 4:12, the Poets cut it to nine but Redlands quickly made it a 21-point game with a 14-2 run to finish out the half. During this stretch, Barbetti-Cort recorded five of her 10 first-half points.

The Bulldogs continued to pour on the offense through the final whistle en route to the impressive victory.

Aside from her 25 points, Barbetti-Cort added seven rebounds, including three on the offensive end, to go along with seven assists and two steals.

Sophomore forward Chelsea Katsch (Davis, CA) came off the bench for 10 points as the only other Bulldog in double figures. Oster pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds and contributed four points, three blocks and two assists.

Whittier (9-7, 3-2 SCIAC) gained 10 points from junior guard Monica Salazar (Seattle, WA), while senior forward Kourtney Zilbert (Burbank, CA) nabbed nine rebounds, highlighted by eight offensive boards.

Redlands (10-6, 4-1 SCIAC) heads to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Thursday, January 26, and then travels to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, January 29.
