Box Score The No. 19 University of Redlands men's soccer team tied the program's all-time winning streak of 14 games by taking down rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a 3-1 showing on Wednesday in Claremont.
The Maroon and Gray capped off a regular-season sweep of the Stags while defeating the conference foe with a hat-trick performance for the second time in 2011.
CMS seemed to control the early goings of the contest, outshooting the Bulldogs by a 9-3 margin. But sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Silva's (San Jose, CA) five first-half saves allowed the U of R to hold the Stags in check.
Seventeen minutes into the second half, sophomore center midfielder Evan Keny-Guyer (Portland, OR) notched his fourth goal of the season when he headed in an assist by junior midfielder Gabe Ramirez (Pasadena, CA). Ramirez set up the play after a foul by placing a smooth cross into the middle where Keny-Guyer connected for the Bulldogs' first score.
Freshman midfielder Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) punched in the score for the eventual game-winner at the 72nd minute. Kustura now has 14 points on four goals and six assists in his rookie campaign.
Sophomore defensive stopper Richie Marquez (Pomona, CA) flashed some of his offensive skills by capping off the Maroon and Gray's hat trick less than 10 minutes later. Once again, Ramirez slotted a perfect free kick into the box where Marquez capitalized, heading in his second netter of the season.
With Wednesday's contributions, Ramirez pushed his SCIAC-leading assist total to 10, with the next closest competitor at seven.
The Stags continued to fight and eventually connected on a netter in the 83rd minute when junior forward Harrison Doyle (Hidden Hills, CA) struck CMS's lone score.
Silva finished out the game with seven stops en route to his 15th victory of the year.
The Bulldogs (16-3-0, 13-0-0) strive to remain perfect in SCIAC as the team travels to Damien High School to face off against the Leopards of the University of La Verne on Saturday at 7 p.m.
