Box Score The University of Redlands men's soccer program kept its undefeated streak alive in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday by defeating the University of La Verne at Farquhar Field, 3-0. In his first collegiate start, sophomore midfielder Will Walker (Folsom, CA) came up big for the Bulldogs, registering two netters and an assist for a career-high five points.
Walker posted the Bulldogs' quickest score at home in 2011 when he found the back of the net at the 2:15-mark. The midfielder struck the ball into the low-right corner off of a deflected header from senior defender Danny Day (Beaverton, OR).
Both teams were scoreless through the remainder of the half with the Bulldogs dominating on both ends of the field. Redlands out-shot La Verne, 9-1, and did not allow a Leopard shot-on-goal through the first 45 minutes.
The Maroon and Gray came out firing in the second half and connected on two goals to secure the hat trick. Less than a minute into the period, Walker tossed a sweet pass into the middle of the field where senior forward Cody Carlson (Burbank, CA) touched the netting for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Walker's inaugural start continued to impress when he landed on the stat sheet once again. During the 54th minute, he headed in the Bulldogs' third and final score of the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) picked up his conference-leading seventh victory in SCIAC competition. Senior goalkeeper Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) finished out the final 30 minutes while notching a save in the process.
This season Redlands has scored three or more goals in nine games while outscoring its opponents by a 41-9 margin.
The Bulldogs (10-3-0, 7-0-0) travel to Claremont on Saturday to face off against the second-place Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 11 a.m.
