Bulldog Women's Basketball Cruises by Pomona-Pitzer on Senior Night

Box Score

The University of Redlands women's basketball team celebrated "Senior Night" with a dominating performance against the visiting Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. After the team honored senior forwards Mackenzie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) and Allison Clark (Altadena, CA) in a short pre-game ceremony, Redlands sent them off with a resounding 70-33 win in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) contest.

Redlands jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and never looked back.

Pomona-Pitzer made it interesting by cutting the deficit to one at 10-11 with 5:49 remaining in the half, but the Bulldogs quickly responded with a 20-6 run to finish out the period. During this stretch, the Maroon and Gray knocked down a trio of three-pointers with junior forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) hitting two consecutive long balls.

Redlands quickly made it a 20-point game when Clark drove the hole for a basket with 17:43 to go in the second stanza and never relinquished this advantage through the final whistle.

A well-balanced scoring attack allowed four players to score in double figures, with Clark leading the Bulldogs with 16. Freshman guard Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks. Carroll also recorded solid numbers with 11 points, 11 boards and six assists.

Smith finished out her final home game of the regular season by scoring two points, nabbing four rebounds, and rejecting one shot.

Pomona-Pitzer gained a team-high eight points from freshman guard Emi Hashizume (San Mateo, CA), with senior forward Emily Van Gulik (Evergreen, CO) chipping in seven.

With the win, Redlands (16-8, 10-3 SCIAC) shores up second place in the conference standings and looks forward to competing at the University of La Verne in the final game of the regular season on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
