After a two-week hiatus due to rainouts, the No. 16 University of Redlands men's tennis team returned to competition on Friday with a 9-0 rout of the Beavers of Caltech in a rescheduled Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match at Verdieck Courts.
The Bulldogs dropped only six games in three doubles victories with the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Darren Dahl (Westlake Village, CA) and senior Casey Fashouer (Arlington, VA) leading the charge with their 8-0 shutout. Sophomore Connor Hyde (Peterborough, NH) and junior Mark Bloom (San Juan Capistrano, CA) teamed up for an impressive 8-1 showing at the No. 2 slot, while seniors Jeff Hammond (Mercer Island, WA) and Keven Wong (Kaneohe, HI) took down their No. 1 opponents by a score of 8-5.
In singles, Redlands continued to roll, dismantling the Beavers in straight sets at every position. Senior Jeff Casserd (Bellevue, WA) nabbed the team's fourth point at No. 6, before senior Leif Durley (Fresno, CA) officially clinched the Maroon and Gray victory at No. 5. Both Bulldogs recorded 6-0, 6-0 performances in their respective matches.
Senior Dimitri Anast (Beaverton, OR) and freshman Ted Burchett (Gold River, CA) also captured solid wins, making their scoring debuts of the season. Anast gained a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3, with Burchett following suit with a 6-1, 6-1 feat at No. 4.
Redlands (3-3, 2-0 SCIAC) welcomes No. 27 University of Mary Washington (VA) to Verdieck Courts on Saturday for a 2 p.m. non-conference showdown.
