No. 16 Redlands Men's Tennis Falters to Third-Ranked CMS

The 16th-ranked University of Redlands men's tennis team faced off against No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) tilt, but the Bulldogs saw their chances of an upset slip away while suffering an 1-8 loss to the Stags.

Redlands attempted to overcome a three-point doubles deficit by putting up a valiant effort in singles, which forced a quartet of three-set matches.

However, the Stags closed the door on any chance of a Bulldog comeback by nabbing the first two victories for the match win.

Nonetheless, the Maroon and Gray rallied to force third sets at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6. Senior Jeff Hammond (Mercer Island, WA) recorded the only victory for Redlands with his 3-6, 7-6(5), 10-8 performance at the sixth spot.

Redlands (10-11, 3-2 SCIAC) hosts No. 27 Whittier College in the final dual match of the regular season for Senior Day at Verdieck Courts on Saturday, April 16, at 10 a.m. In addition, the Bulldogs invite the community to join them for Saturday's United States Tennis Association (USTA) Campus Kids' Day promotion, which is designed to expose more junior players, their parents, and coaches to college tennis varsity team matches.
