The No. 14 University of Redlands men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 shutout of the Beavers of Caltech on Friday in Pasadena. While utilizing a somewhat modified lineup, the Bulldogs refused to relinquish a single set en route to their 14th win of the season.
In doubles, the Maroon and Gray jumped out to a 3-0 lead with junior Darren Dahl (Westlake Village, CA) and sophomore Ted Burchett (Gold River, CA) setting the tone with their 8-0 victory at the No. 3 slot. The rookie duo of Parker Glore (Huntington Beach, CA) and Max Licona (Culver City, CA) prevailed in a solid 8-3 showing at No.2 before the top tandem of freshman Teddy Jones (St. Louis, MO) and freshman Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) posted an 8-4 win.
The Bulldogs captured all six singles matches with Burchett and Dahl securing the overall victory with their outstanding efforts. Burchett dominated his No. 6 opponent by scores of 6-0, 6-1, while Dahl took down his No. 2 counterpart in a 6-1, 6-2 showing.
Glore, Cummins, freshman Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) and junior John Brewer (Portland, OR) also nabbed straight-set triumphs for the Maroon and Gray.
Redlands (14-5, 2-1 SCIAC) welcomes the eighth-ranked Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to Verdieck Courts on Friday, April 13, for an exciting Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at 2 p.m.
