While competing in its second of three consecutive matches, the No. 17 University of Redlands men's tennis team rolled by the visiting Tigers of Sewanee, University of the South (TN), in Tuesday's non-conference tilt. The Bulldogs captured all three doubles matches to nab an early lead and then took control in singles, winning five of them in straight sets, for the 8-1 triumph.
In doubles, senior Connor Hyde (Peterborough, NH) and sophomore Teddy Jones (St. Louis, MO) combined forces at the No. 2 spot to record an 8-4 win, before the top duo of sophomores Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) put together an 8-2 performance. Although they were pushed to a tiebreaker, the No. 3 tandem of seniors Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) and John Brewer (Portland, OR) completed the Bulldog sweep with its 9-8(4) effort.
In singles, Redlands won the first two matches off the court to secure the overall victory in fine fashion. Hyde made quick work of his No. 3 opponent, 6-1, 6-1, while Lipscomb recorded a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the No. 1 slot.
In addition, sophomore Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA), Nanda, and Brewer each came away with two-set victories for the Maroon and Gray.
Redlands (6-3) takes to the court again on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. showdown against No. 25 Swarthmore College (PA).
