Box Score The University of Redlands women's soccer team traveled to Thousand Oaks for Wednesday night's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game against the California Lutheran University Regals. Despite firing off twice as many shots as the home team, the Bulldogs gave up a second-half goal to ultimately fall by a score of 0-1.
While staying offensively aggressive, the Bulldogs dished the ball out to various options throughout the first half. In the 15th minute, junior midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) uncorked a shot, while junior midfielder Cassie Lively (Redmond, WA) followed suit in the 27th minute. Senior forward Lihini Weerasinghe (Redlands, CA) continued the offensive effort by forcing the Regal goalkeeper to make a save in the 36th minute. Senior forward Tanya Haggen (Bellingham, WA) rounded out the first-half offensive attempts for the Bulldogs, as she blasted a shot that went wide in the 43rd minute of play.
After a scoreless opening stanza, the Regals found their way onto the scoreboard on an own-goal less than 10 minutes into the second period.
The Bulldogs continued to push offensively, creating chances throughout the final 35 minutes. Haggen racked up three shots during the second half, while Laursen provided additional pressure on the CLU goalkeeper. However, Redlands was unable to tie it up before the final whistle.
The Bulldogs (3-3-0, 1-2-0 SCIAC) head to Whittier College (1-6-1, 0-3 SCIAC) on Saturday, September 27, for 7 p.m. showdown against the Poets.
