The No. 17 University of Redlands men's tennis team competed on Verdieck Courts for the first time in nearly two weeks, hosting the No. 31 Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran University on Friday afternoon in an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown. After cruising through the doubles, the Bulldogs preserved the 9-0 sweep with four straight-set wins and a pair of victories in extended fashion.
Seniors Gram Leahy (Portland, OR) and Ted Burchett (Gold River, CA) initiated the scoring with a solid 8-2 performance at the No. 2 slot in doubles, before sophomore Jake Ly (Torrance, CA) and freshman Joey Dulle (St. Louis, MO) followed suit at No. 3 with the same result. The senior duo of Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) secured the Maroon and Gray's 3-0 advantage with an 8-4 triumph at the top spot.
In singles, Redlands won the first four matches off the court in straight sets. Senior Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) and Dulle made quick work of their respective opponents, winning 6-1, 6-0, at Nos. 4 and 5, while Cummins rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2 and sophomore Parker Wilson (Carlsbad, CA) collected a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Lipscomb and Leahy also recorded victories to complete the Bulldogs' shutout, as they each prevailed in a match tiebreak at Nos. 1 and 6, respectively.
Redlands (13-7, 4-1 SCIAC) heads to third-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, April 11, for a 10 a.m. tilt against the Sagehens.
