Bulldog Men's Soccer Erupts for 4-1 Rout of La Verne Leopards in SCIAC Showdown

Box Score

The University of Redlands men's soccer team continued Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Wednesday night against the University of La Verne Leopards in an important road-match. The Bulldogs rode an impressive showing from sophomore duo Alexander Knox (Kirkland, WA) and Chase Boone (Beaverton, OR), and erupted for a 4-1 victory over the Leopards.

The Bulldogs wasted minimal time jumping on the scoreboard, as Knox chipped a score over the Leopard goalkeeper after Boone found him free from defenders, for the 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.

In the 30th minute, the Leopards drew a red card, giving Redlands a player advantage for the remainder of the contest. Despite the setback, the Leopards buried the equalizer in the 44th minute to conclude the opening frame with a knotted score.

Nonetheless, the Bulldogs quickly reversed their luck and began to fire on all cylinders. In the 53rd minute, Knox teamed up with Boone for the second time of the night to put the Maroon and Gray up by a score of 2-1.

Just two minutes later, Boone and Knox linked up once again, with the third connection featuring a netter from Boone and an assist by Knox for a 3-1 advantage.

Sophomore midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) capped off the scoring spree for the Bulldogs in the 72nd minute, as he teamed up with junior midfielder Colin Zaccagnio (Phoenix, AZ) for Redlands' fourth goal of the game.

The Bulldogs' defensive unit of junior Tom Elsea (Mission Viejo, CA), senior Peter Marsden (Woodside, CA), sophomore Ben Thompson (Spokane, WA), and sophomore Keoni Yates (Kailua-Kona, HI) halted the Leopards by limiting the home team to only two shots in the entire game, with one coming in each half.

The connection between Boone and Knox was unbelievable on the pitch tonight, as they connected for three scores, with Knox netting two scores and an assist and Boone dishing out two assists and notching a score.

Redlands outshot the Leopards 18-2, while earning a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs (5-2-0, 3-2-0 SCIAC) next take on the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen on Saturday, September 26, at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
