No. 11/8 Bulldogs Men's Soccer Utilizes Depth in 5-0 Thrashing of Whittier College

Box Score

The No. 11/18 Redlands men's soccer team took on the Whittier College Poets in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up on a warm September day on Farquhar Field.  With sophomore forward Kayvon Parsa (West Hills, CA) notching a hat trick, the Bulldogs secured a 5-0 victory over the Poets on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams showed up ready to play as they each took seven shots in the first 20 minutes. In the 22nd minute, Parsa received a great ball to the middle of the box, before taking a few touches around defenders and blasting it past the goalie for the first score of the contest.

Over the next few minutes, Redlands made a complete line change that included junior forwards Anthony Royer (La Crescenta, CA) and Alexander Knox (Seattle, WA), and junior midfielder Will MacFarlane (Park City, UT). In the 37th minute, Knox took the ball to Whittier's corner and made a short cross to MacFarlane in front of the goal. MacFarlane then knocked it back out to Royer, who put it through the posts for his inaugural goal as a Bulldog.

Heading into the second half, Parsa already had one goal but was hungry for more. He and junior midfielder Casey ChubbFertal (Eugene, OR) connected for the next two goals, quickly making the score 4-0 by the 62nd minute.

Finally, junior forward Kamal Bilal (Chicago, IL) capped off the scoring brigade by gathering a great pass from freshman forward Ryan Sayler (Missoula, MT) and netting his first goal on the season.

During the second stanza, junior goalkeeper Josh Haskill (Lakewood, CA) made two great saves to keep the Poets off the board. Junior goalkeeper John Melito (Keller, TX) also saw action between the posts after replacing Haskill in the final 17 minutes of the game.

The Bulldogs (6-1-0) (4-0-0 SCIAC) continue conference play as they head to Occidental College on Monday, September 19, to face off against the Tigers at 7 p.m.
