Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Redlands Women's Soccer and Caltech end in a scoreless tie

PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's soccer team (2-10-2, 2-6-2 SCIAC) played the California Institute of Technology to a scoreless draw on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The Beavers took the first two shots of the game before Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) had her attempt from the left wing go wide of the goal in the seventh minute.

The first save of the game from the Beaver keeper came when Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box in the 19th minute. Less than a minute later, Anika Schmied (Santa Cruz, CA) also had an attempt from the top of the box get saved as the Bulldogs pressed for the lead.

Redlands would have the final two shots of the half that would require saves with Salinas attempting a look from the top of the box in the 33rd followed by Jessica Chavez (Cayucos, CA) forcing a save on a shot in the 43rd as the game went into the half scoreless.

Three of the first four shots in the second half came from Salinas, but she was unable to put any on frame as the game stayed scoreless. In the 56th minute Elena Pinto (Kent, WA) was able to put a shot on target, but the new Beaver keeper was able to make the stop.

In the 63rd and 64th minutes, Caltech was finally able to put attempts on goal, but two-time Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Defensive Athlete of the Week winner Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) made both saves to maintain the tie.

Each team would put one more shot on frame the rest of the way, but neither were good enough to beat the keepers as for the first time this season the Bulldogs played a game to a scoreless draw.

It was a competitive game with a total of 25 shots, 13 for Redlands and 12 for Caltech. The Bulldogs did have a plus three mark in shots on-goal with six, but allowed the Beavers to win four more corners, 6-2.

The Bulldogs will leave SCIAC play this Saturday, October 21 as they host UC Santa Cruz at Farquhar Field in game one of a doubleheader with the men's team with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m.
