Redlands Women's Volleyball competitive in loss to No. 21 La Verne

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Volleyball team (6-12, 2-10 SCIAC) lost in three competitive sets to No. 21 University of La Verne during Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action inside Currier Gym Friday evening.

It was a slow start for the Bulldogs in the opening set as they trailed 4-1, but they took advantage of four consecutive Leopard errors to take a 5-4 lead.

The first kill of the match for Redlands came from Kiki Stradford (Mission Viejo, CA) who scored off a Lyric Waterman (Aurora, CO) assist. Avery Aminoff (Alexandria, VA) then got her first kill as she made it a two-point deficit, 10-8.

La Verne, though, scored seven of the next eight points as they led by eight, 17-9. Redlands would counter with the next five points as Kaegan Wherry (Englewood, CO) had three kills with Maddy Schonauer (Bakersfield, CA) picking up three assists as the Bulldogs forced a timeout.

Coming out of the break the Bulldogs continued to attack as they won the next two points thanks to a combo block from Stradford and Makaila Brooks (Las Vegas, NV) along with a kill for Stradford to make it a one-point set, 17-16. The Leopards, however, ended the set on an 8-1 run as they won the set 25-17.

The Bulldogs' strong middle of the first translated to a quick start in the second as they led through nine points, 6-3. Wherry had a kill and Stradford assisted on two blocks with Aminoff and Isabella Garey (Alexandria, VA) combining on them.

After a Garey kill made it 7-4, the Leopards would win 10 of the next 12 points as they took a 14-9 lead. With the deficit sitting at six, 20-14, Lilia Donaldson (Boulder, CO) started a 6-0 run that tied the set at 20. The run would end there, as the final five points went to La Verne who won the set 25-20.

After a couple of ties early on in the third set, the Bulldogs held a lead through 18 points, 10-8. The set would then be tied at 10 and 11 before the Leopards pulled away to take the set and match 25-16.
