Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Redlands Men's Soccer scores three times in the second half to beat Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (12-2-2, 8-2-2 SCIAC) used a big second half where they scored three goals at California Lutheran University (CLU) Saturday morning to win 3-1, which gave themselves a chance to win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season title if Occidental College had lost to the University of La Verne.

Redlands found themselves behind to the Kingsmen 1-0 in the 12th minute. The Bulldogs earned their first shot on target in the 14th minute when Phillip Kostenko (Redmond, WA) had his shot in the center of goal saved.

In the 28th minute Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) made his first save of the game as he denied a shot headed for the bottom left corner of the goal.

The rest of the half saw only one shot, an attempt by Hazen Arias (Fontana, CA), which was saved in the 39th minute as the Bulldogs went into the half down one.

Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs picked up a quick penalty on CLU in the box giving them a PK, which would be finished by Jarette Barajas (San Jose, CA), tying things up at one.

Kostenko and Skylar Darwen (Los Angeles, CA) each had shots saved in the 49th and 51st minutes. Then in the 66th another foul was drawn inside the box giving Redlands another PK this time from Spencer Palmer (San Diego, CA) who would convert the eventual game-winner.

A third score to give some breathing room came in the 73rd minute from first-year Zach Darmanyan (San Diego, CA). For Darmanyan, he would smack a ball in from 17-yards out to the right side of the keeper, earning his first collegiate goal.

The Bulldogs finish second in the SCIAC Standings and will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (No. 3) at Farquhar Field, Wednesday, November 1 beginning at 7:00pm.
