Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sami Salinas with a brace and an assist in 3-0 win over Caltech

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team ended their three game losing streak Wednesday night under the lights at Farquhar Field beating Caltech 3-0.

The Bulldogs who are now 2-7-1, 2-3-1 SCIAC have now scored three goals in each of their last two games and eight within their last four.

Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) led the offense for the second straight game as she again posted a stat line of two goals and an assist.  She put together this feat against Whittier College on Saturday and has done it again totaling five goals on the season.

All three goals for Redlands came in the second half following a 0-0 draw across the opening 45 with just a combined eight shots being taken.  Jaiden Riodil (Tigard, OR) wasted very little time in the first eight minutes getting a shot off that was stopped by the CIT keeper.  Fifteen minutes later Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) got a look from just outside the box that she connected on, but her attempt would also get stopped.  The final shot would get taken by Salinas right before the half sending in a ball from 30-yards out that curled in, but was stopped by the keeper.

Out of the break Caltech would be the ones who would come out quickly and had great looks to go-ahead as Ellie Yamada and Misha Yap would both take shots that would hit the crossbar.  In the 58th minute that's when UR would get on the scoreboard thanks to Salinas who would unload on a shot just outside the 18, which hit underneath the crossbar barring down and breaking the crease for the eventual game-winner.  Redlands continued with the pressure with Malia Kuhl (Seattle, WA) getting off a look in the 63rd minute and Salinas attempting another in the 71st

In the 83rd the Bulldogs added insurance as Riodil would carry a ball into the box before cutting inside to her left and finishing past a diving CIT keeper.  This would be her third on the season.  But UR wasn't done there as they grabbed a corner kick in the 86th minute, which would be sent far post to a waiting Salinas who would tap it in for her second straight brace.

Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) picked up the complete game shutout playing all 90:00 minutes between the posts registering just one save.   It was the backline consisting of Avery Bergschneider (Denver, CO), Jessica Chavez (Cayucos, CA), Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA), and Kelsey Williams (Murrieta, CA) that proved tough for the Maroon and Grey only allowing the Beavers to register just seven shots with a mere one being on frame.

For the game Redlands outshot Caltech 17-7 with ten of their shots being on goal.  UR also held the edge on corner kicks 4-3.

Redlands has an away game this Saturday, October 7 when they travel to Thousand Oaks, CA to take on No. 23 California Lutheran University beginning at 1:00pm.
