THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (2-8-1, 2-4-1 SCIAC) held a 1-0 lead in the second half at No. 23 California Lutheran University (CLU) Saturday afternoon but two Regal goals in the final 29 minutes sealed the 2-1 loss for the Maroon and Grey.
The first and only shot of the first half for the Bulldogs came in the 19
th minute as
Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) continued her great junior season with her sixth goal of the season and her fifth in the last three games.
Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) did her part in goal as she stopped four potential goals for the Regals as she allowed the Salinas goal to hold up through 45 minutes.
In the opening seven minutes of the second half Stewart made two stops to keep the Bulldogs on top. After another save in the 60
th, CLU finally equalized in the 62
nd.
Then in the final three minutes, and following six saves since the equalizing goal, the Regals scored the game winner with 2:45 on the clock as they salvaged the home win.
Stewart had a fantastic game between the posts as she made 14 saves as she gave the Bulldogs a chance to earn a point despite only one shot for them all game.
Redlands returns to Farquhar Field this Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. as they will host the University of La Verne.
